CCU is a network gateway. It’s responsible for connecting the entire vehicle to the outside world (e.g. cloud, server, telematics center, etc…).

Why does the vehicle need communication with a server?

  • 교통 정보 요청
  • 원격 제어 (remote door lock, air conditioning, etc…)
  • OTA (Over-the-Air) Update
  • 실시간 경로 요청

The external data must go through CCU to be distributed to other devices in vehicle (DCU act as an internal data hub).

But note that this specification isn’t always the case. Depending on the OEM/variant structure, other component may take over CCU’s task and vice versa.
